Air Conditioning

Furnaces

Furnaces are of two basic types: electric powered and combustion models. Combustion furnaces include those that burn natural gas, oil or propane. Both furnace types share similar components, particularly the blower assembly, and both require the presence of ductwork to deliver the treated air. However, the method of heat generation for each is different.

Inside a combustion-type furnace is a pilot light that is used to ignite a burner, which then heats a component called a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger warms the air, separates it from toxic fumes and other by products, which are released to the outside via the flue, and distributes the clean, warmed air throughout your home.

An electrically-powered furnace, on the other hand, uses a component known as a heating element to generate heat. The heating element contains tightly wound, electrified metal coils that heat up when electricity is applied. Air that has been heated by the heating element is then blown into your home.
